SWEET HOLIDAY

Our Christmas Concert was themed a sweet holiday and we heard songs of christmas cookies, dances about gingerbreadmen, movement about chocolate, and instruments about sugar plum fairies.  Our Eagles showed up and gave their best effort, despite the freezing temperatures that kept most kids out to the building for the 2 weeks prior to performance.  Well done!

During the month of September, students have been introduced to a number of songs, some of which include playing the xylophones for accompaniment.

Grade 6 & 7s have been learning Thump, a 4 part introductory marimba piece.

Grade 4 & 4 have been learning Simon, a catchy, upbeat marimba song.

Grade 2 & 3 have been dancing up a storm, with Alabama Gal, Sasha, and Tideo.  They have learned to accompany Tideo with Xylophones and are working to play it in parts.

In Arts Class we have sparked some discussions about Orange Shirt Day and had meaningful conversations about Truth and Reconciliation.  Students painted orange rocks to help build up our rock circle in the Culture Camp area of our school. Some students made 4 colours to create a new circle of courage in the centre.

Students have read books, gathered around the fire and discussed Phyllis Webstad and her Orange Shirt.  Every student in the school had an opportunity to make a little child with an orange shirt, to put around our Circle of Courage display in the school.
